This article is written by Curt Mills. Mills is a writer for U.S. News and World Report. The article is about recent beef between President Trump and the Mexican government. The beef is over law enforcement, border control, immigration, and trade. The U.S. is sending Rex Tillerson and John Kelly as diplomats to handle the conflict.

Our curriculum spends time talking about foreign policy and that is what this article is all about. This article also has to do with the recent sharp contrast in public opinion and public policy. Trump is looking to implement policies such as a wall along our border and plans on deporting illegal immigrants in a very harsh way. Now there are many who favor Trumps policies, but recent polls have shown sharp decreases in support of his desired implementations.

I personally favor Trumps stricter stance on immigration, but I think he needs to be careful with his tendency to be so abrupt. It is very important for us as a nation to maintain good relations with Mexico, primarily because of trade. I think the wall is a great idea and that if done right it can be put up without much conflict, but heavy deportation will almost certainly result in conflict. Mexico does not want to see a sudden surge of deportees into their country at one time. America can not try to avoid hurting Mexico's feeling, but we have to make sure we find a balance when it comes to doing what is best for our country.

The article I am going to summarize was written by Lauren Camera. Camera is a very credible educational reporter for the U.S. News. Camera wrote an article about Betsy DeVos shooting back at protesters who blocked her from entering a public school. DeVos lashed out saying that the protesters are people who are hostile towards change. Camera went on to discuss how DeVos is a big fan of charter schools and how she plans on increasing their funding.

The article relates to the curriculum because it shows a conflict between public policy and public opinion. We have also been discussing political ideology and one-issue parties in class and this article  deals with people who either consider education as a big part of their ideology or the main belief in their ideology.

I watched the video of the protesters and I think it was good that she lashed out because they were for sure getting a little weird. I also feel that blocking the education secretary from getting into a school is not the best form of protest. Even if you do not agree with DeVos, she is better off inside the school than outside. If Devos can even contribute a little then the protesters are taking away from the kids and I think that defeats their whole purpose. I do not know a whole lot about the education system and I go to public school so I am a little bias. But I think that if they put more money, time, and effort into bettering public schools there would not be need for kids to have to go to charter schools. Or Devos should at least put an emphasis on helping out both.

http://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2017-02-08/is-trump-getting-too-personal-with-the-judicial-branch

This article by Susan Milligan is about the recent tension between President Trump and the judicial branch. The tension has come about because of conflicting feelings over Trump's latest executive order. Trump's order was signed on January 27 and has halted refugee immigration from quite a few countries. President Trump has halted immigration because he sees refugees from theses nations as terrorist threats. Members of the judicial branch have stood up and are fighting Trump's order. In return, Trump has retaliated over social media, expressing that it is not their place to do so.

The way that this article relates to the content in the class is that it discusses the judiciary branch and foreign policy. The article and the textbook both address that judges serve for life. They also both address the boundaries and responsibilities of the judicial branch.  The conflict in the article is over foreign policy and the textbook discusses how decisions on foreign policy should be made.

I feel that it is okay for their to be tension between Trump and the judicial branch. I also support Trump in the fact that he called out judge James Robart and expressed his displeasure. However, I do not agree with the way Trump went about calling out Robart, it was childish and Trump should have strictly addressed the matter at hand. I also felt it was a bit hypocritical of Trump to call out the judiciary branch for being bias and for not doing what is "right."
