The article I am going to summarize was written by Lauren Camera. Camera is a very credible educational reporter for the U.S. News. Camera wrote an article about Betsy DeVos shooting back at protesters who blocked her from entering a public school. DeVos lashed out saying that the protesters are people who are hostile towards change. Camera went on to discuss how DeVos is a big fan of charter schools and how she plans on increasing their funding.

The article relates to the curriculum because it shows a conflict between public policy and public opinion. We have also been discussing political ideology and one-issue parties in class and this article  deals with people who either consider education as a big part of their ideology or the main belief in their ideology.

I watched the video of the protesters and I think it was good that she lashed out because they were for sure getting a little weird. I also feel that blocking the education secretary from getting into a school is not the best form of protest. Even if you do not agree with DeVos, she is better off inside the school than outside. If Devos can even contribute a little then the protesters are taking away from the kids and I think that defeats their whole purpose. I do not know a whole lot about the education system and I go to public school so I am a little bias. But I think that if they put more money, time, and effort into bettering public schools there would not be need for kids to have to go to charter schools. Or Devos should at least put an emphasis on helping out both.
